Call your members of Congress, and demand they vote NO on the tax plan.

  • A massive tax giveaway to the wealthiest and corporations paid for by students and working families
  • The bill could jeopardize the ability of states and local communities to adequately fund public education, potentially risking state funding for hundreds of thousands of education jobs
  • The bill also expands an education tax loophole that essentially is a voucher program for wealthy families
  • Push crushing debt and tax increases onto the middle class while Medicare, Medicaid, and education will take the brunt of the cuts
  • They will eliminate the state and local deductions for working people but keep it for wealthy corporations
  • Will take away health care coverage for 13 million Americans and cause premiums to spike for millions more
  • Trigger $25 billion in automatic cuts to Medicare in 2018 alone
  • Adding $1.5 trillion to the national deficit

Call for Nominations for IEA Awards

Nomination deadline for all awards is Jan. 16. For information and criteria for each award, please visit the IEA website and go to Benefits/Awards.

 IEA RA Volunteers

IEA would like to invite interested members to volunteer for the IEA Representative Assembly in Rosemont, April 19-21. Volunteers may not be delegates to the IEA RA. Volunteer positions include: monitoring electronics charging station, counting and distributing materials to the head table and delegation, door monitors, taking and picking up materials from the IEA Office/Print Shop and, if needed, helping the Elections Committee. Deadline for accepting RA Assistant applications is midnight, Feb. 11.

If you are in the Springfield Area on January 17th

On Jan. 17, from 6:45– 9p.m. IEA will be showing the film Resilience, The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope at the PDC. This is open to all members who wish to attend. A light dinner will be provided beginning at 6:15 p.m. Resilience and Paper Tigers were made as a documentary duo, providing complementary perspectives on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and what is being done about them. Resilience is a one-hour film that delves into the science of ACEs and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. Primary Source’s online course, Global Understanding in Action: Human Rights, Educational Access & Gender Equity! To allow more members to take the four-week online course, registration has been reopened for a second offering.
